VERDIGRIS

Verdigris—the
green-turquoise patina that forms on copper and its
alloys—is one of the most intriguing examples of the
aesthetics of inanimate nature. It emerges through
oxidation, as the metal’s surface transforms from a raw
sheen into a complex, irregular structure of colors and
textures. This process, devoid of intention, produces
effects that resemble deliberate composition. Verdigris
embodies a paradox: it is both a trace of
degradation and a source of beauty. As the material
breaks down, a new visual quality appears—soft color
transitions, organic patterns, textures akin to
abstraction. It is a record of time and environment, a
kind of ‘signature of entropy’ that not only creates
aesthetic value but also protects the metal.

verdigris color.) |
